  • 19 Aug 1882: An influential and representative meeting of the residents and property holders of Beaconsfield was held on Friday at Messrs Byrne, Vale, and Co's rooms, Collins street east, to discuss an offer made by Mr Knight of an acre of ground, on which a building might be erected for a church, school, and other purposes. It was resolved unanimously that Mr Knight's offer should be accepted, and that the thanks of the meeting should be conveyed to him by Mr Elms, hon. secretary. Opportunity was taken to urge upon the Berwick Council the necessity of metalling and repairing the roads, more especially the part between Key's Hotel and the foot of the ranges. The chairman (Mr. G F Brind) was requested to convey the resolution of the meeting to the president of the shire council.15
