Marriage-Notice*24 Sep 1943 Cream Slipper Satin for Saturday's Bride
A wedding gown of cream slipper satin was worn by Miss Phyllis Ella Veale for her marriage on Saturday last to Lieut. Austin Drummond Peters. The beautiful gown was moulded to her figure. It was shirred on the top of the shoulders and the top of the sleeves with a panel of shirring at the waist allowing the front to fall In folds. It was buttoned at the back to the waistline and finished with a long satin train. Her lovely tulle veil, kindly lent by Mrs A. Mathieson, was held in place with a coronet of orange blossom. She carried a bouquet of white camellias and maidenhair fern. The bride, who was given away by her uncle, Mr C. D. Collins, is the only daughter of Mrs E. Veale and the late Mr T. Veale, of Benalla, and the bridegroom is the only son of Mr and Mrs Alfred Peters, 228 Gleneira Road, Elsternwick. Rev. David Clarnette performed the ceremony at the Benalla Methodist Church. Mrs S. Cummings was organist. Miss Helen Norris attended the bride, and she wore a frock of dusty pink soft crepe with a matching toque. The lovely gown was cut on slimming lines with train sleeves trimmed with silver sequin. She wore an opal pendant, the gift of the bridegroom, and she carried a lovely bouquet of blue and pink hyacinths and maidenhair fern. Captain W. Gilbert was best man. While the register was being signed, Miss E. Ballantine gave a beautiful rendering of "My Prayer," and as the bride was leaving the church, little Judith Veale, niece of the Bride, and Sergt Bens Mansfield placed lucky horsehoes on her arm. Following the ceremony, a reception was held at Paton's Cafe. The bride's mother received the guests wearing a navy blue crepe suit with a fur cape to which she pinned a spray of pink hyacinths. She wore a matching navy hat. She was assisted by Mrs Gilbert, as the bridegroom's parents were unable to attend. Mrs Gilbert chose a navy blue costume with matching hat and accessories. Her shoulder spray was of red gerbras. The honeymoon is being spent travelling. The bride left in a dusty pink wool Jersey suit with black hat and accesories. The future home of the happy couple will be in Melbourne.6
