Newspaper-Articles

  • 25 Jun 1892: DUGDALE V. DUGDALE. This was a petition by Jane Dugdale for a divorce from William Dugdale, on the ground of desertion. Mr Woolf appeared for the petitioner, instructed by Mr A. R. Daly. The suit was undefended. The marriage took place on 7th October, 1875, and after the parties had lived at various places in New Zealand, the respondent left the petitioner during their residence at Invercargill. The petitioner came to Victoria and lived with her husband at Benalla in 1878, but not for long, and at his suggestion the wife left her husband, and came to live with her parents. The petitioner heard nothing of her husband until she found that he was engaged to play an organ at a church gathering at Albury. She wrote to the respondent, and he replied, telling, her to meet him at the Rose Hotel, Albury. She was ill at the time, and when she wrote to the hotel to find whether her husband was still at the place, she heard that he had left and had since been unable to find his whereabouts.
His Honor granted the application with costs.12
