  • 7 Sep 1880: Death of father: It is with deep regret that I have to report the sudden death of Mr Thomas Hore, of Cumberoona Station, from fracture of the skull, caused by riding against the branch of a tree. From particulars that I received from the most intimate friend of deceased, it appears that on Saturday Mr Hore left home, accompanied by his nephew, to see to the unloading of some tobacco at the Gerogery railway station. After having transacted his business, they were on their return home, and about 3 or 4 miles from Tabletop Station, when deceased's horse, which was a young one and fresh from the stable, must have become unmanageable and rushed against the branch of a tree. The nephew at once rode to Tabletop for assistance, and deceased was taken to that station and the doctor telegraphed for. Dr Kennedy, the partner of Dr Ryan, was soon in attendance, but from the first saw that it was impossible for deceased to recover, the skull having been badly fractured in several places. Dr Kennedy remained in attendance, and did all he possibly could to alleviate the sufferings of the unfortunate gentleman, but he died at about half-past ten o'clock yesterday (Sunday) morning. Mr Hore was in his 50th year, and leaves a large family to mourn their loss ; and not only his family, but the whole district, of which he was one of the oldest members, will feel the loss of one who on account of his loving-kindness, liberality and open-handed generosity, was respected by all. The agricultural and pastoral society have lost a strong supporter, and the racing club could ill afford to lose a member who always looked after the interests of the club and loved to see a fair race, and, in the capacity of judge, his decisions were never questioned. A magisterial enquiry will take place to-day, and the funeral will leave Tabletop Station for the Albury cemetery this afternoon.5
  • Apr 1907: Catherine Ann Hore (nee Bergin) (1829 - 1907) : Obituary. Death of Old Residents.—On Sunday night last the death occurred at her residence, "Cumberoona House," Macauley-st., Albury, of Mrs. Hore, relict of the late Thomas Hore. The deceased lady had been in a very feeble state of health for some considerable time. She was 77 years of age, and had resided in this district for close on half a century. A native of Ireland, she came to Australia when quite a young woman. Her husband, the late Thomas Hore, first engaged in pastoral pursuits at Dapto near Wollongong (N.S.W.), but with his wife and three of their family removed to Wagra (Upper Murray) as long back as the year 1858.
After spending a few years there, he settled at Cumberoona, where he was a well-known grazier, till he met his death by a fall from a horse about 28 years ago. Mrs. Hore, with her family, came to reside in Albury about 22 years ago. The late J. J. Hore, of Cumberoona, and the late Pierce Hore, of Cobar, were sons of the deceased lady. Other members of the family who are still living are —Messrs. P. D. and E. Hore, Mrs. Collins, Mrs. Elms, and Misses Elizabeth, Rose, and Matilda Hore.
The interment took place at the Albury Cemetery on Tuesday afternoon, and was largely attended, the deceased lady, who was of a very kindly disposition, and highly esteemed by all who knew her, having many friends and relatives in those parts.6
  • 20 Apr 1907: Death of mother: The death has occurred at Albury of Mrs. Hore, relict of Mr. Thomas Hore, one of the pioneer settlers in the district. The deceased, who was 77 years of age, had resided in the district for half a century. Her husband was killed by a fall from a horse 28 years ago. Two sons and five daughters survive the deceased, who has numerous other relatives in the district.7
  • 7 Nov 1912: Hubert Oliver Elmes is inquired for by his wife, Angela Mary Elmes, Redhaven," Broadway, East Camberwell, Victoria. Description :—Clerk, 39 years of age, tall and dark, going grey, clean shaven. He deserted his wife nine years ago, and as she is in failing health she would like him located, with a view to proceedings for maintenance.— O.8338A. 3rd November, 1912. Herbert Oliver Elmes8
