World War I

Frederick Roy Wilson enlisted on 2 Aug 1915 when he was a 20 year old farmer living at Diamond Creek. SERN 2164. He was with the 29th Battalion, which embarked from Melbourne on 18 Feb 1916, on board HMAT A70 Ballarat. He was promoted to Lance Corporal and transferred to the 32nd Battalion. He served in France. He was accidentally injured on his right knee in November 1917 and suffered from severe synovitis, and sent to England for recovery.
His family moved to Noddfa, Upper Beaconsfield, in May 1917, and in a letter to enquire about his son's condition, his father wrote: "I would of come and injured myself only I live a good way back and I cannot leave home at the present."
Frederick Roy Wilson returned to Australia on 8 May 1919.1
