Newspaper-Articles

  • 19 Aug 1882, An influential and representative meeting of the residents and property holders of Beaconsfield was held on Friday at Messrs Byrne, Vale, and Co's rooms, Collins street east, to discuss an offer made by Mr Knight of an acre of ground, on which a building might be erected for a church, school, and other purposes. It was resolved unanimously that Mr Knight's offer should be accepted, and that the thanks of the meeting should be conveyed to him by Mr Elms, hon. secretary. Opportunity was taken to urge upon the Berwick Council the necessity of metalling and repairing the roads, more especially the part between Key's Hotel and the foot of the ranges. The chairman (Mr. G F Brind) was requested to convey the resolution of the meeting to the president of the shire council.12
  • 3 Dec 1884, WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 10. Sale of Dwelling House completely furnished and Five Acres, at Beaconsfield.
John Vale and Son HAVE received instructions to Sell by public auction (through their auctioneer, W. F. Vale) on Wednesday, 10th December, at the new auction rooms, Planet-chambers, 8 Collins-street east, at two o'clock,
    TOWNSHIP of BEACONSFIELD.
All that piece of land containing FIVE ACRES, adjoining the Beaconsfield Railway Station, having a large frontage to Wood-street, and also to Cardinia Creek a permanent creek running all the year round. The land is enclosed with white thorn edge all round; about 4 acres in garden, ornamentally laid out, and orchard picket-fenced. The remaining 1 acre is tastefully laid out as a fernery, together with a COMFORTABLE DWELLING-HOUSE built of wood, and containing 6 rooms, completely furnished; water laid on from the creek, and other improvements.
The auctioneer can confidently recommend this property to anyone desirous of purchasing a country retreat away from the busy city, but within easy access.
Beaconsfield, with its beautiful and varied views, is well and justly known as one of the prettiest and moat salubrious spots in the colony, and anyone health-seeking cannot do better than reside in a district where the air is invigorating and pure.13
