  • 25 May 1918, Mr. Joseph Henry Flack, the news of whose death will he received with regret by a large circle of friends, and by those who have moved in financial circles in Melbourne in the past 40 years, was a Fellow of the Chartered Accountants Society, and a Fellow of the Society of Accountants and Auditors, and of the Institute of Accountants. He was born at Camberwell, Surrey, in 1847. As a young man he was connected with the firm of Price, Waterhouse, and Co., chartered accountants, of London. He came to Australia, and in 1879 the accountancy firm of Davey, Cole, and Flack was established. Five years later the firm became Davey, Flack, and Co., and in 1904 that partnership was dissolved, and Mr. Flack, entered into partnership with his son, Mr. E. H. Flack, under the firm name of Flack and Flack. In 1906 Mr. Flack retired from the business, which has been carried on ever since by his sons. In 1886, in conjunction with the late Mr. William Crellin, Mr. Flack founded the Institute of Incorporated Accountants of Victoria, and was the first secretary. He was the oldest surviving member of the board of management of the Alfred Hospital, from which he retired on the day before his death. Hehad been in ill-health for some years. A widow and two sons survive him.2

    Mr Joseph Henry Flack, well-known in Melbourne financial circles, died on May 21 at the age of 70 years. He was born at Camberwell, Surrey, England, and began his career in London. Coming to Melbourne he established the firm of Davey, Cole and Flack, which later became Flack and Flack.8
