  • 28 Nov 1947: WALTER SIMMONS
    Mr Walter Simmons died at his home at Mt. Burnett on November 18. He was 79 years old and had spent nearly 75 years of his life in the Emerald district. His late father being one of the pioneers of the district. He leaves a wife, Ernestine Anna, and two sons, Lorris and Raymond, and a grandchild, Lorris Harval.
    He was buried in the Macclesfield cemetery and an old friend, Mr Horace Jackel conducted the service at the graveside. It was a most impressive ceremony.
    His coffin bearers were his sons and Kevin and Maurice Costello. Pall bearers were, M. Kirk. J. Hogan, F. Fielder, S. Smartt, D. Hell, E. Kendall, S. Simmons, L. and G. Garton, G. Baker, L. Wade and A. Kendall.
    W. J. Garnar and Sons carried out the funeral arrangements. The late Mr Simmons will be sadly missed from the district. He was a kindly and amiable soul and his funeral was one of the largest to enter the cemetery.7
