  • 5 Dec 1951: Well-known Officer Identity Passes
LAST MONDAY week at the Pakenham Bush Nursing Hospital, Mr. William James Pidgeon, well-known Officer identity, passed away suddenly, at the comparatively early age of 47. The sad news was received with universal sorrow, for deceased was well-known and held in warm affection in the Officer district where he took an active part in most district activities. Born at Plumstead, a suburb of London, Mr. Pidgeon came to Victoria in 1923, and made his home at Officer and spent the last 28 years of his life there. Very well thought of in the community, he leaves behind him a host of friends who share the sorrow of his wife, son (Bill) and daughter Betty (Mrs. Cuthbert Harris). Before the funeral last Wednesday a large congregation attended a service conducted by Rev. J. Ryan in the Officer Union Church. Rev. Ryan also officiated at the graveside when the remains were interred in the Berwick Cemetery. Mr. Pidgeon was a Past Master of the Pakenham Masonic Ledge, and the Masonic service was conducted by Wor. Bro. H. L. Keys. The casket was carried by Messrs. W. Pidgeon, C. Harris, A. Tivendale and H. Gregory. The pallbearers were Cr. C. Harris, Dr. W. G. Farrell and Messrs. P. Brown, D. C. Black, F. C. Auhl, L. D. Goldsack, I. Handford and L. Smith.11
