Newspaper-Articles

  • 8 Jan 1912: At the Police Court on Friday a charge of offensive behavior was preferred by Olive Rundell against Sydney Albert Green. Mr J. P. Doyle appeared for complainant, and Mr Frank Stephen for defendant. The offence was alleged to have taken place on 27th December at the Inebriate Retreat, Lara, where the parties were then employed. Green had previously instituted proceedings against a constable for alleged assault, and in connection with the case he, on the morning of 27th December, endeavored to follow Miss Rundell into the bedroom of Mrs Stafford to serve her with a subpoena. Miss Rundell and Mrs Stafford pushed him out of the room, and subsequently he went to the washhouse, where Miss Rundell was at work, and threatened to cut her throat. Benjamin Stafford, husband of Mrs Stafford, and William Henry Lloyd, attendants at the institute, swore that Green had threatened them with a knife the same morning, and that he appeared to be very excited. Mr Stephen contended that the whole case was a conspiracy against Green. Defendant, on oath, denied the statements of witnesses for the prosecution. Green was fined £5, with £3/1/ costs.7
