  • 8 Jan 1925: BUCHANAN—PARKER. Mr. and Mrs. William Parker, of "Horama," Healesville, gave a dinner party to celebrate the wedding of their only daughter, Ethel, to Mr. Claude W. J. Buchanan on December 22. The ceremony was performed at 7 p.m. by the Rev. James Gibson, of Hawthorn, in a private room at the Oriental Hotel, Melbourne. The bride's white marocain frock was draped in Grecian style and caught in front by a diamente buckle. Ostrich feathers wreathed her becoming hat and formed a cape effect round the shoulders. A pearl necklace and a sheaf of lilies were the complements. The bride's aunt, Mrs. Don Cameron, of Ballarat, was matron of honor, wearing a cinnamon embossed georgette gown trimmed with marabout to match. Her turban headdress was of gold tissue and feathers, and she held a bouquet of red roses. The bridegroom, who is the eldest son of the late Mr. W. H. Buchanan, of Kent, England, was supported by Mr. McCallum Neil as best man. Wedding dinner was served in the Georgian Room, the tables being artistically decorated with mauve and pink carnations.
The hostess wore a black satin gown with tunic beaded in Oriental colorings. Her smart black hat was finished with a high feather mount, and she held a posy of red roses. Orchestral music was played during the evening, and after the bride left dancing was enjoyed by the guests. Mr. and Mrs. Claude Buchanan left by the Mongolia on a honeymoon trip to England.
