    A quiet but pretty wedding was celebrated at 'Roslyn,' Devenport, yesterday afternoon by the Rev. D. S. Jones, the contracting parties being Christina, youngest daughter of the late Mr and Mrs Thomas Ross, of Inveresk, Launceston, and Mr William Grieve, of Devonport. Only the intimate friends and relatives of the parties were present. The bride, who was given away by Mr F. S. Wilson, of Latrobe, wore a dress of crepe de chene, trimmed with lace and insertion, and wore the orthodox veil and wreath of orange blossoms. She was attended by her sister, Miss F. Ross, who was attired in a cream gown. Mr B. Symons supported the bridegroom as best man.
    After the ceremony a number of guests sat down to the wedding breakfast, laid out in a large room at "Roslyn," and the usual toasts were honoured.
    Mr and Mrs Grieve left later by motor for Burnie, and will proceed to the mainland, thence entering upon a twelve-months' visit to Scotland. The bride's travelling dress was a navy blue coat, and skirt, trimmed with Irish crochet lace. The presents were both numerous and costly, and included a tea service from the Coronation Ladies' Lodge, Protestant Alliance, of which the bride had held the position of treasurer.   • 10 Mar 1915: DEATH OF MRS. GRIEVE.
    The painfully sudden death of Mrs. William Grieve, which took place in the Queenstown Hospital in the early hours of last Saturday morning, came as a severe shock to the community, for it was only a few days before that they had seen her about as usual, apparently in the most perfect health. Mrs. Grieve, however, had complained more than a week previously of an internal pain, and went under medical treatment for this, but no improvement came about, and as the result of her illness taking a serious turn an operation was decided on. This was performed on Friday afternoon, and it was found that she was suffering from peritonitis. After the operation she never rallied, and on Saturday morning passed away. Deceased was the youngest daughter (Christine Mary) of the late Mr. Thomas Ross, of Inveresk, Launceston, and was married to Mr. William Grieve on October 15, 1913, at Devonport, where she had a large circle of friends. Shortly after marriage she came to reside at Queenstown, and during her residence here established firm friendships with all who became acquainted with her. Besides a husband to mourn his loss, she leaves a large number of brothers and sisters, some of whom are in the State and some on the mainland. One brother is at present a Church of England clergyman in Sydney, and another is a school teacher in Hobart, but was formerly at Waratah. Mr. and Mrs. Grieve were devotedly attached to each other, and the deepest and sincerest sympathy has been extended to the sorrowing husband by those who feel for him in his hour of poignant grief.
    The mortal remains of Mrs. William Grieve were yesterday (Tuesday) morning conveyed to Devonport for interment. The local funeral arrangements were performed by Mr. Richard Clarke. William Grieve5

    The Church of England is that portion of the universal Church of Christ located in England having for its ministers bishops, priests and deacons, and being legally and historically continuous with the Church of most ancient times. It acknowledges the supremacy of the Crown, and has always had a national character. Christianity came to England at a very early period, and it is very probable that its early establishment there was a result of communications with eastern countries. It is the principle religion in Australia in the order of numerical strength. In Victoria the Church of England is ecclesiastically divided into six dioceses. Numurkah is now situate in the Diocese of Wangarratta.
    The weatherboard church in Numurkah was erected in 1885, on one-half acre of ground, which had been purchased for this purpose. In the statistics of the Diocese of Melbourne, for the year 1885, the Church is referred to under the "Beechworth Archdeanery." The approximate number of annual services are shown as 215, and the accommodation is sufficient for 550 persons, of whom the usual attendance at the principal Sunday services is given as 190. The number of Sunday-school scholars is quoted as 35, of whom 25 regularly attended. These comprised 13 boys and 12 girls, and the teachers numbered three. During the first year the Church was open there were three marriages and six burials. Amongst these statistics is a reference to the Deanery of Echuca which then comprised, inter alia, the "Readers' District" of Numurkah.
    In 1885-6 the Rev. Henry Wills Lane occupied the pulpit. In the latter year he left for Omeo, and the Rev. Jonas Youlden took his place. Mr T. G. Guyatt was the honorary reader. His duties were to assist the minister by reading the Lessons at services. In 1890 the Rev. Youlden took charge of the Shepparton Church, and his place was taken by Rev. Wm. Dalton. Mr Herbert Turner (solicitor) and Mr T E Crowther had in the meantime been the Church secretaries.12
