Clara Maude Oram

F, #24750, b. 1878, d. 11 Jul 1954
Note* Maude was born in Rupanyup, where her parents had a farm. She was the ninth of ten children. The family moved to Kew in 1900.
Maude trained as a nurse and worked at the Kew Asylum. She met William Waugh's sisters who also worked there. William was teaching at Boolite, and Maude was still living at home with her parents. She and William were married at her parents house in Tennyson Street on January 4, 1905. The Methodist minister was William Moore. Witnesses to the wedding were Margaret Isabella Waugh and Henry Roland Lowe. Lowe was Secretary of the Overnewtown Cricket Club in 1896-7 while William was the Captain. He died in Kew, 1923 at the age of 46.
The Waugh family moved around Victoria as William taught in a number of schools. In 1915 the family moved from Boolite to Elphinstone. They were the first family to live in the new school residence. In 1918 they moved to Garfield in Gippsland.
In 1933 they moved to Castlemaine after William was transferred to Chewton. Maude was active in the Country Women's' Association, the church, and with school activities.
She died in 1954 and was buried on July 17, 1954, in an unmarked grave at the Harcourt Cemetery. Her son, Lindsay, was buried with her in 1955.1
