  • 6 Jan 1938: MRS. ANNIE MARY RYAN.
Mrs. Annie Mary Ryan, of 147 Canterbury Road, Canterbury, died on the 28th ult., following a sudden illness to which she succumbed a few days later. Rev. Father M. K. Irish, Administrator, Kiama, administered the Last Sacraments to her. A native of Tipperary, Ireland, she came as a young girl to Australia, and in 1911 she married at St. Augustine's Church, Balmain, Mr. Patrick Ryan, who predeceased her in 1918. In the early days of hor married life, deceased and her husband were the proprietors of the Texas and Killarney Hotels in Queensland, and after her husband's death, Mrs. Ryan conducted several hotels in and around Sydney (including McQuillan's Hotel, Bankstown).
Of a bright and cheerful disposition, she enjoyed the friendship of a large circle, to whom the news of her sudden death came as a great blow and much sympathy is felt for her three surviving children, Matthew, John and Annie (Nan), who have lost a good companion as well as a devoted mother. Messrs. Patrick and Matthew Ryan, of Camperdown, John Ryan and Miss Kate Ryan
of Ballagh, Co. Tipperary, Mrs. Alice Griffin, Ryde, and Sister M. Rosalie, of Incarnate Word Convent, Texas, U.S.A., are brothers and sisters of deceased. The congregation at St. Mel's Church, Campsie, on Thursday, 30th ult., when Requiem Mass was celebrated by Rev. C. J. Keller, was a fine tribute to Mrs. Ryan, as also was the large and representative gathering at Woronora Cemetery, where Father Keller, assisted by Rev. Father B. Jordan, officiated. Rev. Father G. D. Wallington being amongst those present, including relatives, life-long friends of deceased and her family, far too numerous to mention. Wood, Coffill Ltd., had charge of the funeral arrangements.10
