The Government purchased part of the Glenbrae property from the Cotter Estate, and divided it into three parts. One part was used as a Soldier Settlement block, first occupied by Albert John BRAIN. He stayed on the property for only a few years, probably partly influenced by an accident where his young son accidentally shot his cousin. His sister, Mrs Edith TAYLOR, was running Glenbrae Guest House for a short time.

The property was then allocated to Percy Thomas RENFREE, who had previously had a farming allotment in Shepparton.
